But rising activism, especially amongst today’s youth, is redefining how power is exercised and with what aims - as we increasingly see traditionally marginalised groups collectively practise the power they have through art, language, and civil disobedience.
Silence plays an important role in human rights respect and violations. Its power is fuelled by both by its absence and its presence.
But we all have a role to play in confronting the many faces of silence, both good and bad. As we tackle them in open conversation, we invite people to think critically about the norms that keep us quiet.

Amid overwhelming evidence of Israel’s atrocities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, human rights organisations and trade unions are urging the EU to ensure a thorough review of Israel’s compliance with article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement. A credible review can only reach one conclusion: that Israel is in severe non-compliance with article 2 and that the EU-Israel Association Agreement must be suspended, at least in part. The EU must act now.
